All This Space Going To Waste
It's a sign of how accustomed I've become to ludicrous city rents that when I read articles about young people scrambling and scamming for housing like this one in the New York Times, my first reaction isn't "there are other places to live besides New York," or even "I wish I had a trust fund," but: "Share a 1500-sq-ft loft in Williamsburg with five other people for $2600/month? What a deal!"

It's like a game of chicken: I'm trying to outlast the cache while the cache thinks it can outlast me. Clearly this is a game I won't win, so I should just feel lucky that I have an apartment with a closet.
Madness? This is NEW YORK!!!
I believe they mean the $2600 per month is split between the five/six persons. last apartment I had in NYC was about 10 years ago. Parlor floor of a Chelsea Brownstone. (20th/8-9th) paid around $2600 per month. after we moved the landlorde jacked it up to around $4500. that was ten years ago.
Yeah, that was my guess too, $520 apiece. Which is a lot to pay for 1/5 of a bathroom, but still, for some perverse NYC reason, sounds pretty good.
